# Branded Calling

> Show your business name, logo and the reason for the call on T-Mobile and Verizon phones when your numbers call. Supply the brand and a signed letter once, approve the registration, and every number shows it.

# Branded Calling

When one of your numbers calls a T-Mobile or Verizon mobile phone in the US, the phone can show
your **business name**, your **logo** and a short **call reason** instead of a bare number. This is
US Enhanced Branded Calling, run by Twilio and the carriers. People are much more likely to answer
a call that says who it is from.

It is one registration for the whole organization, and every number Erdo bought for your agents
carries it, including numbers added later.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Branded Calling is **not free**. Twilio charges **\$0.12 for every call where the brand is shown**
> on the phone. Calls to landlines, to other carriers or to phones that do not support it are not
> charged. Because it costs money per call, Erdo files it only after somebody approves it.

## What it needs

Before anything is filed, three things have to be in place.

1. **A complete business profile** at **Settings → Business**, with the EIN. Branded Calling
   registers the business by its legal name and tax ID. A sole proprietor has no EIN and cannot
   register.
2. **Verified calls on each number.** Branded Calling only works on numbers with SHAKEN/STIR "A"
   attestation. Erdo files that by itself once the business profile is complete
   ([Verified calls](/sms-registration.md#verified-calls-shaken-stir-attestation)). A number joins
   Branded Calling once it has A.
3. **The brand and a signed letter**, in the **Branded calling** section of Settings → Business.

## Filling in the Branded calling section

| Field | What it has to be |
| - | - |
| Display name | Up to 35 characters, plain letters, digits, spaces and `. , & ' -`. It **defaults to your legal name**. |
| Call reason | Up to 64 characters, such as *Your viewing request*. It describes why you call. No personal or health details, and no links. Some phones do not show it. |
| Logo | Your own logo, PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP, at least 128 pixels wide. Erdo centres it on a white 256×256 square, the format the carriers take. It is checked against trademark registries, so it has to be yours. |
| Signed letter of authorization | Twilio's letter, signed by somebody at your business. See below. |
| Use case, calls per day, employees | What the calls are for, how the people you call agreed to be called, roughly how many calls a day, and how many people the business employs. Twilio's reviewers read these. |

### The display name has to be yours

The display name starts as your **legal name**, and you can change it. Twilio only accepts your
legal name or a name **legally registered to your business**, such as a "doing business as" name.
It refuses generic names, such as a city, a service or a slogan, and rejects the registration if
the name is not yours. You can drop the entity ending: *Example Harbor Holdings* is still *Example
Harbor Holdings LLC*. Any other name is sent to Twilio as the name your business trades under, and
Twilio's reviewers check it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Several organizations in Erdo can belong to one legal entity, for example one developer with a
> separate organization per project. An organization can only show its own name, rather than the
> shared legal name, if that name is legally registered to the business.

### The letter of authorization

Twilio needs a letter, signed by an individual at your business, confirming you may use the name
and logo on these numbers. Erdo cannot sign it for you.

Press **Download pre-filled letter** in the section. Erdo fills in your display name, legal name,
contact (the representative from your business profile) and address. It does not include your tax
ID, which the letter does not ask for. Somebody at your business ticks the authorization, signs and
dates it (by hand or with an e-signature), and you upload the signed copy as a PDF, JPG or PNG.

## Registering

When nothing is missing, press **Register branded calling**. That files an approval card stating
the display name, call reason, logo, the numbers that will carry it and the price per call.
Nothing reaches Twilio until the card is approved.

After approval, Erdo files the registration in your organization's own Twilio account, uploads the
letter, adds every number with A attestation and submits it. Twilio reviews it in about **seven
business days**, then the carriers set it up. A number you add later is added automatically once it
has A attestation, with no new approval. Twilio checks a new number on its own, which can take a day
or two.

## What the status means

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| `missing_inputs` | Something in the section is still empty. The section lists what. |
| `unregistered` | Everything is in place. Register it. |
| `pending` | Filed. `next_step` says where it is, usually Twilio's review. |
| `approved` | Calls from these numbers show the brand on supported phones. |
| `failed` | Twilio rejected it. Its reason is shown. Correct the details and register again. |
| `not_enabled` | Twilio has not switched Branded Calling on for your account yet. It is a beta that Twilio enables account by account. Erdo checks again every day and carries on by itself once it is on. |

Each number shows its own part: **Not yet** (with why, usually that it does not have A attestation
yet), **In review**, **Adding…** or **Branded**.

## Changing the brand

A registration carries one display name. When you change the name, call reason, logo or letter after
it was filed, or correct the business profile it was filed with, the section says the details
changed. Registering again files a new approval card;
once approved, Erdo deletes the current registration and files the new one. Calls show no brand
until the new one is approved.

## Using it from the CLI, the API and chat

```bash CLI theme={null}
# The brand, what it still needs, and each number's part
erdo voice branded-calling get
# Supply the details (omitted options keep their values)
erdo voice branded-calling set --call-reason "Your viewing request" --use-case CUSTOMER_CARE \
  --use-case-description "Returning calls to people who asked about a property" \
  --consent-description "They submitted our enquiry form asking to be called" \
  --daily-calls 40 --employees 12 --logo logo.png
# Download the pre-filled letter, then upload the signed copy
erdo voice branded-calling loa --out letter.pdf
erdo voice branded-calling set --loa-file signed-letter.pdf
# File it (an approval card; Twilio charges per branded call)
erdo voice branded-calling provision
```

```bash REST theme={null}
curl https://api.erdo.ai/v1/voice/branded-calling -H "Authorization: Bearer $ERDO_API_KEY"
curl -X PUT https://api.erdo.ai/v1/voice/branded-calling \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ERDO_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"call_reason":"Your viewing request","loa_base64":"<base64 of the signed PDF>"}'
curl https://api.erdo.ai/v1/voice/branded-calling/loa -H "Authorization: Bearer $ERDO_API_KEY"
curl -X POST https://api.erdo.ai/v1/voice/branded-calling/provision \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ERDO_API_KEY"
```

Through MCP the tools are `erdo_voice_branded_calling_get`, `erdo_voice_branded_calling_set`,
`erdo_voice_branded_calling_loa` and `erdo_voice_branded_calling_provision`, and every entry in
`erdo_voice_phone_number_list` carries `branded_calling_assignment`. In chat, ask "can our logo show
when we call?". The agent reads the status and, when it is ready, proposes the registration with the
price on the card.

Only an **organization admin** can change the details or download the letter.

## What it does not cover

Branded Calling reaches T-Mobile and Verizon mobile phones in the US. Some devices show only the
name, and Verizon does not show the logo on some plans or on phones not bought from Verizon. For
landlines and other carriers, the name comes from your [caller name](/sms-registration.md#the-name-your-number-shows-when-it-calls).
A brand does not stop a call being labelled as spam if the people you call report it.
